Thank you for your interest in the 2025 Stephen Gerard Thompson Scholarship. Established in 2017, this program honors Stephen Gerard Thompson, a long-time NCPFC Board member and respected leader in the San Francisco Bay Area painting industry. In recognition of his dedication to advancing the trade, the Northern California Painting and Finishing Contractors (NCPFC) is proud to award six individual scholarships of $5,000 each to support the educational goals of our member community.

Qualifications:

To be considered, each applicant must meet the scholarship award eligibility requirements and complete a scholarship application.

Open to all NCAT and NCPFC member company management employees and their family members, including dependents, immediate and extended relatives.
Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited university or community college.
Open to students at any stage of their academic journey— Freshmen through Seniors—as well as those continuing their education. There is no age limit.
Applicant may pursue any major or field of study.
Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8*.
Applicant must submit an unofficial transcript.
Applicant must submit a completed scholarship application.
Past recipients are encouraged to apply.
Applicant must use scholarship award amount towards educational expenses (such as tuition, fees, books, course supplies)

*For adult learners or those returning to school, the most recent GPA from prior high school or college coursework will be considered.

Deadline for submission is July 8, 2025, by 4:00 p.m.
Scholarship recipients will be announced and awarded during the week of July 28, 2025.

Use of Scholarship Funds (Applicant Initial Required)

I understand that this scholarship is intended solely for qualified educational expenses, including tuition, mandatory fees, and course-required books, supplies, and equipment, as defined by the IRS. These funds are not taxable when used for these qualified expenses, and a 1099 form is not required.

I agree to use all scholarship funds for these purposes only. I understand that if the funds are used for non-qualified expenses (such as travel, room and board, or personal items), those amounts may be considered taxable and may result in a reporting requirement to the IRS. I accept full responsibility for any tax consequences that may result from improper use.
