Important amendments have been made to sections of the Bay Area Painters & Tapers Pension Trust Fund which affect both employers and union employees.
Expansion of Employment Categories to Allow Retired Painters to Continue to Receive Pension Payments
Previously, the Bay Area Painters & Tapers Pension Trust Fund limited the scope of work to estimating to allow a retired union painter to continue to receive their pension payments while continuing to work in the industry.
The Plan Document's Section 11.13(a)(3)(b) has been amended in its entirety to include new employment categories: “If a Pensioner receiving a Service Pension becomes employed - performing work solely as an estimator, project manager, purchasing agent, and operations director - by a Contributing Employer, their pension payments shall not be suspended for any calendar month in which he is so employed.”
Union Painters Who Complete Required Training Will Receive a $1 On-Benefit Contribution to Their Pension
Per Section 3.03(a)(11) of the Plan, effective for Covered Employment on or after January 1, 2025, Participants who complete 16 hours of industry-related training sponsored by the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) by June 30 of the prior year, will be credited only in the immediately subsequent calendar year up to $1.00 that was otherwise off-benefit contributions.
